In Canada this is the most common way to get fuel. If you can't get a truck to come down then you have to carry the jerry cans to the gas station for diesel (which can be a challenge without transportation). However, people of the Canadian Maritimes are unbelievably helpful when you are in need.
The small Ship Cove Harbour was a bustle of activity with fishing boats off loading their catch:
We were just darn lucky to find a spot to fit in - no one said anything, but I believe it was the kindness of the fishermen that allowed us to find a spot.
